Sprints

The F1 2023 schedule has announced that there will be six sprint races this year, which is double the amount from 2022.

Sprints inject some extra fun into proceedings, and the FIA is looking into changing the rules to make sprints stand-alone events in future years. But for now, sprint rules remain the same; they award points to the top eight drivers and decide the starting positions for the Grand Prix on the same weekend.

The F1 2023 sprint calendar is therefore an exciting one, with the lineup looking like this:

  • April 30 – Azerbaijan
  • July 2 – Austria
  • July 30 – Belgium
  • October 8 – Qatar
  • October 22 – USA
  • November 5 – Brazil

Teams

The F1 2023 driver lineup is also looking rather interesting this year, with some major changes within the teams.

At the end of 2022, we said goodbye to F1 legend Sebastian Vettel, as he retired from the sport as a four-time world champion at the ripe old age of thirty-five.

Taking Vettel’s place on the Aston Martin team is another F1 veteran, Fernando Alonso, who has made the move from Alpine.

And stepping into Alonso’s shoes is Pierre Gasly, who will join Esteban Ocon, creating a 100% French lineup for the Alpine team.

Finally, we have the arrival of some fresh meat, in the form of Nyck de Vries, Nico Hülkenberg, Oscar Piastri, and Logan Sargeant.

Sergeant was confirmed as the new driver for the Williams team after it was revealed that Hülkenberg would be replacing Mick Schumacher at Haas.
Nyck de Vries has replaced Gasly at Alpha Tauri, while Oscar Piastri joins teammate Lando Norris at McLaren after the shock news that Ricciardo’s contract would not be renewed in 2023.
